International Children's Peace Prize Projects 2007
The International Children's Peace Prize is accompanied by a AkzoNobel Children’s Peace Prize Fund of 100,000 Euro. This is given by KidsRights to concrete projects in the spirit of the commitment of the young winner. The project contributes to the mission of the winner and has positive impact on his or her environment.
The Jack CECUP School
Through the project fund of 2007, the Jack CECUP School in Zambia, has been expanded with two new classrooms, so more children can benefit from an education. This is also the school where Thandiwe, winner of the Children’s Peace Prize 2007, received her primary education.
Furthermore, Hodi, a Zambian organisation, was funded. Hodi is specialized in helping villages to improve their self-sufficiency, assists communities in their development and in organizing community activities. Homes for teachers and classrooms have been built in villages where many children worked for the tobacco industry. Thanks to the new classrooms and facilities, children who would have otherwise taken on jobs, are now able to go to school.
